I vote for scary ... but then again, my 4-year old son jumped out at me and said "BOO!" the other day ... and when he recognized that startled me ... He laughed and said ... "Mom, I scared the fucking shit out of you!! Ha Ha Ha!"
So, I guess I am the heathen parent with devil spawn :)
